The The Youth V.I.B.E. After-School Program
Youth V.I.B.E. is an Atlanta-based academic enrichment and business mentoring program founded in 1996. For nearly a decade, Youth V.IB.E. provided high school students with free skills training and the life-long tools needed to be successful as business leaders.
In 2006, Youth V.I.B.E. was awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant, allowing the organization to expand its operations and curriculum.
As an After-School Program operating out of Avondale and Cedar Grove High Schools in DeKalb County, Youth V.I.B.E. offers academic enrichment in math, science and English.
For the entire school year, free from 3:30- 6:30 pm Mondays through Thursdays (and some Saturdays), Youth V.I.B.E. offers a rewarding environment where students can prepare for their futures by increasing test scores, engaging in thought-provoking dialogue with guest speakers, polishing their writing, public speaking, strategic planning and conflict resolution skills; and taking tours of area businesses.
Curriculum
The program provides expanded academic enrichment opportunities for children attending low performing schools. Tutorial services and academic enrichment activities are designed to help students meet local and state academic standards in subjects such as reading and math. In addition, the program offers families of 21st CCLC students opportunities for literacy and related educational development.
The academic enrichment component of the Youth V.I.B.E, curriculum, designed by the distinguished Princeton Review, will help students realize higher test scores in math, science and English. Certified teachers, college students and parent volunteers will guide the students in pre and post testing to track their progress in those three core academic areas.
The interactive, business mentoring component of the curriculum relies heavily on collaborations with the business community. This component involves guest speakers discussing such topics as drug and violence prevention, technology, art, music, counseling and character education to enhance the academic component of the program. Business topics such as marketing, accounting, public speaking, community service, real estate investment, dressing for success, using debate to resolve conflicts, etc will also be addressed.
Youth V.I.B.E. also facilitates outings and tours of local businesses and industries, enabling teen participants to see first hand how businesses operate behind the scenes.
All component of the After-School Program are free to participating students.
